Lew, tonight's hero

After dinner tonight, we decided to swing through another older neighborhood to look at azaleas. So, to get there, we took one road that connected to the older neighborhoods. When we drove past this little tiny circular court that only had 2 houses on it, we saw a fire in the trees behind the vacant lot next to one of the homes. That home had a builder's sign on it, so it seemed to be unoccupied. The other home had several cars in the driveway and even one on the court, but no people visible.

The fire didn't seem to be in an area with any shape to it that would make you think someone had a campfire, so we actually stopped and backed up to pull onto the court. Seeing no one around, Lew headed up to the home with the cars. The owner must have seen him approaching because he opened the door before Lew even got to it.

Now, for the manly part of the story... 2 men having a conversation regarding an emergency situation. And it went like this...

Lew: Are you doing that?
Man: Doing what?
Lew: (points to fire) That?
Man: No.
Lew: I think you need to do something about that.

And that was the whole conversation and Lew came back to the car. We did drive past again right away and saw the guy on his porch on a phone. On another swing by less than 5 minutes later, we saw the fire truck arriving along with 2 sheriffs. Both of those times, the fire was obviously larger than the previous time. It was very scary to think what could have happened before someone else noticed, but also a little cool to see. Seeing how quickly it was spreading was scary, too.

So, for tonight, we know Lew was the Hero!!
