There were no marches or polkas. The concert was an hour of classical tuba solos, duets and a small ensemble of 6. (3 baritones and 3 tubas.) Then, they played about 30 minutes of lighter music. The beginning of that half hour was the 6 piece ensemble playing some tuba pieces written more recently, but still more classical than not. See, the Mozart piece they played in the beginning was an arrangement for tubas, but not how Mozart wrote it since he, apparently, lived before tubas were invented! The director (who plays with them for most pieces) is very good at teaching us cool stuff during the performances.
The last maybe 15 minutes was lighter music "Oh When the Saints Go Marching In", "In The Good Ol Summertime", The Happy Wanderer (closest to oompah music we heard all evening) and several others. They ended with what they called "heavy metal"... which was a rock and roll medley that began with "Rock Around the Clock" and had a lot of Elvis in it.
The concert was great... and the kids were perfect!
