We ate out tonight at a buffet. We eat there often, although we haven't been in quite a while. Carl did wonderfully! Steak, spaghetti, ham, spaghetti, chicken, spaghetti, shrimp, spaghetti, cornbread, spaghetti, carrots, spaghetti, ice cream, spaghetti, melon, spaghetti, .... Gretchen ate basically sunflower seeds. She did eat a few bites of ham when we told her no ice cream if she didnt' eat some protein. Anyway, that is not the embarrassing part.
As we left the table, an older couple stopped us to fawn all over Gretchen's hair. They were very sweet and polite and Gretchen was soaking up the spotlight as she does so well. Carl was even saying "Hi" and talking a bit. Then, the gentleman pulled out a few coins from his pocket and Gretchen was delighted to receive them! Carl even seemed to be excited, too. But, then, before we could politely get away - he pulled out 2 one dollar bills and gave the kids those. We tried several times to return them, but they insisted that it made them happy to give them to the kids. I was probably beet red as we thanked them and said goodnight.
By the time we got to the car, Gretchen said, "I do not want this money." Oh that girl!! I put the bills in their bank envelopes and decided to honor the sweet natured, generous couple here.
