we are thankful for our friends

Thanksgiving night, we had a visit from one of our dearest friends, Lindy. We had our dinner alone as a family and then got to visit and have dessert with Lindy before bedtime. The kids couldn't have been happier to have him show up! He played princesses with Gretchen, read them both stories, and gave them these really cool German chocolate Kinder Eggs that have a toy inside. Carl unwrapped his and promptly set the chocolate aside to get to the yellow casing inside that holds the toy. His was a cute orange cat! Perfect! Too perfect! Gretchen didn't get to her toy as quickly because, well, do you know any females who pass up chocolate? But, hers is a little fuzzy pink alligator/dragon/dinosaur baby coming out of an egg. Perfect! Too perfect!! Even Lindy was pleased since these egg toys are completely random. Gretchen promptly named this baby dinosaur "Dinosaur Sarah" and is in love! By the way, these eggs are banned in the US. Maybe I shouldn't be going on and on about them, eh?

At some point, something came up about eating... and it turned to Lindy asking Gretchen if we could eat certain animals. Eventually, he asked about eating cats. Instead of her saying, "No they are pets!" she plainly replied, "We don't eat cats because they are furry and their hair would tickle your mouth and make you cough."

But, the funniest quote of the night came when she and Lindy were on their third game of Hungry, Hungry Hippos. (background: Gretchen does not lose gracefully. Background on the background: that was a severe understatement.) Lindy was about to win and Gretchen informed him, "I am supposed to win. You are playing to have fun."

Really, you need to experience her in person as well. It's so much funnier than I can write about it.
