Butterfly House

We were meeting Lew & Lindy for lunch today since school starts next week and we won't be able to go out to lunch with them (except school vacations).  But, before we headed to Costco, we stopped at the gardens to check out the butterfly house.

Carl wanted a butterfly to land on his shoulder so badly!  Well, butterflies are shy and 5 year olds are wiggly.  But, at one point, one did land on his head - and he was soooo happy!!!  Meanwhile, Gretchen had a brown leaf she had brought in from under a magnolia tree and was using it to coax a butterfly up onto her hand.  He crawled up the leaf and onto the girl.  Just like she wanted him to.  I was really surprised!  Then, he was like her best friend.

He stayed on her shirt!

He stayed on her hands!
He stayed on her arms!
He even had a friend join them!
She and I were able to transfer him safely to Carl and he loved it... but only wanted to hold a butterfly once. He did continue to talk about the one that landed on his head, though.

It was a fun hour!  We stopped at the fountain for a quick picture before heading to the car.....  somehow, each child ended up with splashed butter beans, courtesy of their sibling.  Goofballs.
Lunch was fun, too!  A nice Tuesday morning for us!!

  1. Your kids must be super sweet for the butterflies to land and stick around on them! I hope the gentleman at McDonald's went home thinking that kids weren't such bad whipper-snappers after all. We have smurfette, brainy, papa, and handy smurfs around here. They are awesome toys!! Nana and Papa took the kids to the movie and said it was cute - they kids enjoyed it!
